Agartala Jul 11: Century old traditional festival, Ker Puja was observed with due dignity in the state on Tuesday.
With the rituals that started on Monday night itself, the head priest or Chantai, who holds the highest authority of the day carried out the puja where animal sacrifices were made as offerings to the deity,
Speaking to the reporters, the head priest said, “Ker, the guardian deity of Vastu Devata holds a deep cultural significance with rituals and customs that are carried out for more than 100 years”.
“A definite structure is being constructed with bamboo, there are many strict rules of the puja, there are several restrictions and people maintain total silence during the rituals. The notified area for puja permits no deaths, births or even recreation. No outsiders are allowed and those violating rules must have to pay fines”, he added.
The area in and around the royal palace has been notified for Ker Puja, where the rituals are held uninterrupted for more than 30 years.
Meanwhile, the Tripura chief minister Dr Manik Saha greeted the people of the state on the auspicious festival.
