Amarnath Yatra 2023: It is raining heavily across the country. Due to the heavy rains, there are flood-like conditions in many places. It is raining heavily in Jammu and Kashmir as well. In such a situation, due to bad weather, the Amarnath Yatra had to be stopped for the second consecutive day on Saturday (July 7). It is raining heavily in most parts of Kashmir. Landslides occurred at several places on the 270 km long Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district.

According to the information, no pilgrim has been allowed to go towards the cave on Saturday morning. SSP Ramban Mohita Sharma tweeted that the road connecting Tunnel 3 and Tunnel 5, which bypasses the Panthaiyal tunnel. It has been washed away due to heavy rains, resulting in permanent closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. 

No permission to visit the cave 
Sharma said that due to rain and closure of the highway,  any new batch of pilgrims will be allowed to enter the cave from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu. Permission was not given to leave for the cave. He said travel remained suspended for the second consecutive day on the Baltal and Pahalgam routes in the valley. According to the information received from the SSP, due to overnight rains in the state, landslides and stones fell at Panthyal, Mehar and other places in Ramban district, due to which the Srinagar-Jammu highway has been blocked. Along with this  Train services have also been suspended on the Qazigund to Banihal railway track following water-logging at Hiller railway station in Anantnag.

Earlier, due to rain in many parts of Kashmir, the yatra was suspended on Friday as well. Due to heavy rains that started early Friday, the pilgrimage had to be stopped and the pilgrims were stopped at Baltal and Nunwan base camps. This year, the 62-day annual pilgrimage to Amarnath began on July 1 from Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district. The yatra will end on August 31.
