Agartala, July 03: The opposition TIPRA Motha party chairman Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman on Monday said that the Motha would not repeat the mistake that the IPFT had made earlier by sitting in government.
Soon after landing here at Agartala MBB Airport from Delhi, where he met the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Pradyot said, “We had a talk regarding our constitutional solution for our Tiprasas by constituting ‘Greater Tipraland’.”
“During the last 70 years, our Tiprasas of Tripura had struggled a lot and then the IPFT party which was in government did nothing for them,” he said, adding that the TIPRA Motha party will not compromise with the demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’.
He said, “We also have our demand for introduction of Roman script for Kokborok language and the Union Home Minister is aware of this. There was also an issue of interlocutor as was assured by Amit Shah, but we are no more stuck with that of the interlocutor issue rather we are to press for the demand of creation of Greater Tipraland which itself would be a constitutional solution for our Tiprasas.”
“We shall decide on being a part of the government only after our demand for Greater Tipraland is met by the Government of India,” he told reporters.
On the issue of the government’s plan to implement Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the Motha chairman said, “As far as the UCC is concerned which is to ensure protection for the women of this nation, this also should preserve the customary law of the Tiprasas of Tripura and the STs of the North-East region of the country.”
