Vinayakan Remarks On Oommen Chandy: Police raided the house of Malayalam actor Vinayakan on Saturday (July 22) and seized his phone. This action has been taken in a case registered against Vinayak for his recent derogatory remarks on the late former Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy.   

A team of police personnel raided the award-winning actor’s apartment at Kaloor in the main city to collect evidence. A senior police officer  Said, ‘‘We raided his apartment and interrogated him. His phone has also been seized.’’

Case registered under these sections
The actor was summoned on Friday (July 21) to record his statement, but he did not turn up. The actor has been booked under Indian Penal Code section 153 (voluntarily provocation with intent to cause riot), section 297 (outraging the modesty of a person who is no longer alive) and section 120 (o) of the Kerala Police Act (harassing any person by any means of communication), the officer said.

What was the comment made by actor Vinayakan?
In a video circulated on Facebook on Wednesday (July 19), the actor asked, ‘‘Who is this Oommen Chandy? Why was his death declared a three-day state mourning?’’Vinayakan later removed the video from his Facebook account following social media outrage and widespread criticism from various quarters.
