Gujarat Rains: The period of excessive rainfall continues in Gujarat. Heavy to very heavy rains lashed many districts of South and Saurashtra regions of Gujarat on Saturday (July 22), leading to flood-like situation in urban areas.

Due to the rains, the water level in the dams and rivers rose to dangerous levels, leaving the villages isolated. Several parts of the state were waterlogged, causing traffic jams and inconvenience to residents.

Navsari and Junagadh received the heaviest rainfall, where residential areas and markets were flooded. Officials urged the public to exercise caution, not to venture into the dam or surrounding areas, and to report any emergencies.

219 mm of rain in 8 hours
Junagarh received 219 mm of rain in 8 hours, which badly affected the city. Cars and cattle parked there were washed away in the gushing water, with people seen wading through waist-deep water to reach safer places. In addition, rescue teams were deployed to evacuate people from low-lying areas to safer places.

Which areas received torrential rains?
Navsari district of South Gujarat also received heavy rains, disrupting normal life and flooding urban and rural areas. A father-son duo got swept away in a swollen drain in Navsari city. An official said the man was rescued while efforts are on to trace the son.

Due to heavy rains, there was a traffic jam on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway near Navsari. Other districts with heavy rainfall include Devbhoomi Dwarka, Bhavnagar, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Valsad and Amreli.
