PM Narendra Modi Egypt Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go on a state visit to Egypt from 24 to 25 June. Vinay Kwatra told reporters, ‘‘ Prime Minister Modi is visiting Egypt at the invitation of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.’’ Al-Sisi attended India’s Republic Day celebrations as the chief guest and at the same time invited the PM to visit Egypt. This will be Modi’s first visit to Egypt as Prime Minister.
Will pay tribute to Indian soldiers
Prime Minister Modi will visit the Al Hakeem Mosque which was renovated with the help of the Bohra community. He will visit the Heliopolis War Memorial and pay homage to the martyred Indian soldiers. Kwatra said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Egypt is taking place within six months of President Al Sisi’s visit to India, which shows its importance.
He said, ‘‘We are hopeful that Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Egypt will not only continue to accelerate relations between the two countries, but also expand cooperation to new areas of business and economic interaction. ’’ The Foreign Secretary informed that Defense Minister, Foreign Minister and Forest and Environment Minister have visited Egypt in order to enhance cooperation between the two countries. Similarly, three-four ministers from Egypt have also visited India.
Bilateral trade will be strong
The Foreign Secretary informed that a delegation led by the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority has come to India. Prime Minister Modi will interact with senior dignitaries, some prominent Egyptian personalities and the Indian community in Egypt. Prime Minister Modi ‘India Unit’ He will also hold dialogue with the Committee, which was formed by the President of Egypt in March after returning from his visit to India. Many high level ministers are involved in this unit.
Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral talks with President El Sisi of Egypt. Some MoUs will also be signed during this. Significantly, during the talks between Modi and CC, it was decided to increase the bilateral trade from the current around $7 billion to $12 billion in the next five years. Defense and strategic ties between India and Egypt have intensified over the years. The armies of the two countries had conducted the first joint exercise in January this year.
