Dy Mayor holds meeting with Councillors; discusses welfare works and measures taken to control water logging – aabtak24

Agartala June 19: A meeting was held at the AMC conference hall with the corporators of various wards of the Municipal Corporation that discussed successful implantation of various state and central government schemes for upliftment of the scheduled castes people.

Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta presided over the meeting here on Monday.

Talking to the reporters in this context, Dutta said, “The meeting discussed various steps that must be taken in a bid to develop the marginalized sections of the society including people belonging to scheduled caste”.

“Councillors of all 51 wards under Agartala Municipal Corporation have been asked to work in their respective areas and see that all the necessary government facilities are reaching the common people”, she added.

The deputy mayor further said, “The state as well the central government is working towards reducing poverty of the SC communities by generation of additional employment opportunities through skill development, income generating schemes under Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY)”.

On being asked about AMCs move in controlling the water logging situation in the city after heavy showers since Sunday, the Deputy Mayor said, “Agartala Municipal Corporation has taken various initiatives to drain the water accumulated in Agartala city due to heavy rains. At present AMC has 16 pump machines to drain heavy rain water in Agartala. 5 of these are diesel powered pump machines and 11 machines are electric”.

Besides, there are 5 motorized boats, 15 life jackets, 2 sky lifts for felling trees and 4 dedicated teams in Central, North South and East zones for flood and disaster response.

Mayor Dipak Majumder, Additional Municipal Commissioner Mohammad Sajjad P and other officials visited different areas of the capital city.

The Deputy Mayor said that the Akhaura canal and Kalapaniya canal have already been cleaned using modern machines.

“There are 21 medium drains in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area. These are kept clean through outsourcing agencies. Apart from this, 22 small drains are kept clean by the cleaning staff of AMC”.

Monika Das Dutta appealed common people not to discard plastic carry bags and other items in drains.

Meanwhile, Sadar SDM Arup Deb on Monday said that the Sadar Sub-Divisional Administration has 5 boats to deal with floods. 10 civil defense volunteers have been kept on standby.

Besides, there are 10 Apada Mitras in the district administration. There are also 4 tree cutting machines.
