Opposition Meeting: Ahead of the opposition meeting to be held in Bengaluru on Monday-Tuesday (July 17-18), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress reached an agreement on Sunday (July 16). By evening, it became clear that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is going to participate in this meeting. Earlier, AAP had said that it will not attend the opposition meeting until the Congress clears its stand on the Delhi ordinance.

Now it is being discussed in the political circles that how the Congress agreed to this agreement. In fact, NDTV quoted sources as saying that the party always intended to oppose the ordinance, but the miscommunication had put the entire opposition in jeopardy. Finally, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee mediated on the matter, and then the issue was resolved somewhere.

Why did Congress go on silent mode?

Last month, in the opposition meeting held in Patna on 23rd of June, Congress had said that it will not support anything of BJP. Its culture is to take everyone along. After this, all the leaders of Delhi including Congress leader Ajay Maken opposed it, then the party went on silent mode.

But now Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP has got the Congress to agree to the fight in Parliament on the ordinance. Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party had clearly said that it will not participate in any opposition meeting in which the Congress is present until the Congress clears its stand on the ordinance.

Congress leader OP Soni arrested in Punjab

In the midst of this development, former Deputy CM in Punjab and senior Congress leader OP Soni was arrested in the case of disproportionate assets under the anti-corruption campaign. There is an AAP government in Punjab and it is headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. In such a situation, once again a problem arose between the Congress and the AAP. Through this, Arvind Kejriwal tried to indicate that he would not back down until the stand of the Congress was clarified.

Then on Saturday (July 15) a meeting of the Congress was held but the matter appeared to be standing there. The party failed to clear its stand that it would stand with the opposition against the ordinance in Parliament. At the same time, a message was given by Jairam Ramesh, the communication in-charge of the Congress, due to which the opposition once again came to a standstill.

Entry of Nitish Kumar and Mamta Banerjee again

After so much upheaval on the matter, the entry of Nitish Kumar and Mamta Banerjee takes place in the scene. Quoting sources, NDTV said that these two leaders explained to the Congress leadership that if they do not clear their stand, the wall of the opposition may collapse and there is a fear of a hole the size of Delhi-Punjab.

After this, on Sunday (July 16), AAP called a meeting of its leaders. When Mamata Banerjee came to know about this, she immediately called Mallikarjun Kharge and asked the party to issue an explanation immediately. After this, KC Venugopal clarified the stand of the Congress.

Then by the evening of Sunday (July 16), AAP spokesperson Raghav Chadha issued a statement and it became clear that the Aam Aadmi Party would participate in the meeting to be held in Bengaluru under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal.
