Ghazipur Landfill Fire Incident: Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai took stock of the fire incident at the Ghazipur landfill site on June 12 yesterday. He told that Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), MCD and Delhi Fire Service have been instructed to keep a strict vigil on the landfill site. Instructions have been issued to all concerned departments to take immediate steps to control and extinguish fire incidents at the landfill site.

Gopal Rai said that during the summer season, incidents of fire are reported from landfill sites in Delhi every year. Various norms/instructions are already in place to prevent such fire incidents and to control them in case of fire at a landfill site. 

Instructions issued for 24-hour surveillance

Gopal Rai said that the incident of fire at Ghazipur landfill site today is a matter of strict adherence to the norms/instructions laid down by DPCC, MCD and Delhi Fire Service to prevent and control such incidents of fire at landfill sites. Instructions have been given. so as to prevent the occurrence of such fire and to take immediate steps to control and extinguish the fire in case of fire incident at any landfill site.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai, while giving more information on the incidents of fire at landfill sites, said that the biggest reason for the fire in landfill sites is the continuous release of methane gas, which not only promotes fire incidents but also It is also harmful to the atmosphere. In such a situation, an SOP has also been prepared to prevent incidents of fire at landfill sites.

He said that in order to strictly implement the SOP, instructions have been issued to the teams of all concerned departments to keep a 24-hour vigil to prevent incidents of fire in landfill sites. These teams will not only carry out continuous inspection of landfill sites but will also work to prevent fire incidents.

Deployment of 24*7 personnel and installation of CCTVs

Prohibition of entry of unauthorized persons and rag pickers
