Kiren Rijiju On Manipur Violence: Manipur has been burning in the fire of violence for the last two and a half months. Recently, a video of two women being paraded naked and sexually assaulted went viral. Union Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Saturday (July 22) that the central government will place the facts on the Manipur incident in Parliament regarding the violence in the state.
Kiren Rijiju refused to speak about a video circulating on the Internet in which some people can be seen parading two women naked. Refusing to get into any controversy over the May 4 incident in Kangpokpi district, Rijiju indicated that it would be inappropriate to discuss the issue outside Parliament.
The video of the incident surfaced on July 19
When asked questions on the incident, Rijiju said, ‘’Whatever matter will be discussed in Parliament, we will keep our point, but I cannot say anything on this matter right now.’’ The minister said that he has come here for the job fair and will not make any other comment.
Officials said on Saturday that the Manipur Police has arrested one more person, aged about 19 years, in connection with the May 4 incident. It is alleged that both the women were sexually assaulted before they were released.
A 26-second video of this horrific incident came to the fore on Wednesday (July 19). B. A man who was part of the women’s parade in Phainom village was seen dragging a woman. One of the women with whom this shameful incident happened is the wife of a former Indian Army soldier. The mob is also accused of killing two people during that period.
Violence started from May 3
More than 150 people have lost their lives so far in the ethnic violence that broke out in Manipur on May 3. Clashes started in the state after the tribal solidarity march on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
