GST Council Meeting News: In the GST Council meeting on Tuesday (July 11), the Finance Ministers of Punjab and Delhi got into an argument with Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. During the meeting, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Delhi Finance Minister Atishi Marlena clashed with Nirmala Sitharaman. The Aam Aadmi Party is in power in both these states.

In this meeting of the GST Council, tax on online gaming, tightening of rules for claiming Input Tax Credit (ITC) can be considered. Apart from this, a decision is also expected to be taken on tax exemption on dinutuximab, a drug used in the treatment of cancer, to make the food and drink items cheaper.

Multiplex Association of India (MAI), an industry lobby group representing cinema hall owners, has proposed to reduce the tax on certain categories of food and drink sold inside movie halls. Presently, they are taxed at 18 per cent, which has been proposed to be reduced to 5 per cent. In this, tax can be reduced especially on other food items like popcorn, cold drinks. These things are important sources of revenue for cinema owners. Through this, they earn 30 to 32 percent in a year. At the same time, movie tickets priced below Rs 100 are currently taxed at 12 per cent, while tickets above that limit attract 18 per cent GST.

Center and AAP at loggerheads over posting-transfer
On the other hand, a dispute is going on between the Center and the AAP government regarding the right of transfer-posting of government officials in Delhi. In this case, the Delhi government has challenged the ordinance of the Center by filing a petition in the Supreme Court, on which the hearing is going on.
