How Geeta Press started

The story of the beginning of this press is very interesting. Actually the matter is of the 1920s. At that time a Marwari Seth Jaidayal Goyandka of Calcutta used to read Gita everyday. One thing written in the 18th chapter of this Gita touched his heart.

It was"The one who recites this supreme secret Gita Shastra to my devotees, I will get it.” After this, at the behest of the people, Jaidayal Goyandka got his explanation published by a press, but he was saddened to see the grave mistakes in it

On the same day he thought of the press, then on the suggestion of one of his devotees Ghanshyamdas Jalan of Gorakhpur, Geeta Press was started in 1923 in a ten rupees rented house in the same city.

Relationship between Gandhi and Gita Press

In the year 1926, Geeta Press decided to bring out a monthly magazine i.e. a magazine to be published every month. Mahatma Gandhi also wrote his article in this. Although Gandhiji put a condition for this article. He said that no advertisement should be published in this magazine. Accepting his point, Geeta Press decided not to print the advertisement.

Gita Press was shut down in 2015

In the month of December 2014, the employees of Geeta Press sat on strike for their salaries. After which the press had also fired three of its employees. However, later a meeting was held between the employees’ union and the trustees of Geeta Press and the issue was resolved. After which those three employees were also hired back.

What did BJP say on the criticism of Congress?

While talking to PTI, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, ‘The biggest problem of the Congress party is that it is not able to get out of the family nest and Pappu’s mouth. They think that all the Nobel Prizes, all the honors should be confined to the nest of only one family. Geeta Press has preserved the values, culture and inclusive thinking of the country."

Press Manager Lalmani Tiwari thanked Geeta Press for selecting it for this honor and said, "We thank the Union Ministry of Culture, Government of India and specially the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the ‘Gandhi Peace Prize’ Thank you for providing. It is our principle not to accept donations of any kind, therefore the Board of Trustees has decided that we will certainly accept the award out of respect for the award, but will not accept the money that goes with it."
