Karnataka High Court: The Dharwad Bench of the Karnataka High Court has upheld the death sentence awarded to a person who killed five people, including three children. During this, the court said that the decision of the lower court is correct. 

Justice Suraj Govindraj and Justice G Basavaraj’s bench, while disposing of two petitions filed by the convict and the state, said, “The brutality of the crime resulted in the death of five people, including three children below the age of 10 years. /p>

The court further said, “In view of the brutality with which this was done, we are left with no option but to confirm the order of death sentence passed by the lower court.” We with a heavy heart uphold the decision of the lower court.’

What else did the Karnataka High Court say?
The High Court had reserved the decision after completing the hearing on the petitions on 22 November 2022, but the court had sought many information including some records and reports . The court noted that these records were necessary for issuing directions in all cases in which the prosecution seeks the death penalty. 

When was the murder?
Byluru Thippaiah, a resident of Kenchanagudda Halli in Bellary district and worked as a laborer, suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair. Due to which there used to be a quarrel between them. They had four children.

Thippaiah said that he is the father of only one of them. On February 25, 2017, he attacked and killed his wife Pakkeeramma, their three children Pavithra, Nagaraj, Rajappa and sister-in-law Gangamma.
