Manipur Violence: The situation in Manipur was discussed in detail on Saturday (June 24) in an all-party meeting convened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. During this, many opposition parties requested to send an all-party delegation to the state. However, the government has not made any commitment regarding this. 

News agency PTI gave this information by quoting sources. Congress and some other parties demanded the removal of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, while some opposition parties asked to impose President’s rule in Manipur. According to sources, the government emphasized that it was making all efforts to restore normalcy. In fact leaders of various political parties including BJP, Congress, West Bengal Chief Minister Trinamool Congress and Left parties participated in the meeting. 

PM Modi mentioned 
After the meeting, BJP Manipur in-charge Sambit Patra told that Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Prime Minister On the instructions of Narendra Modi all efforts are being made to restore peace in Manipur.

According to Patra, Home Minister Shah also said in the meeting that since the beginning of the violence in Manipur, there would not have been a single day when he did not talk to PM Modi about the situation or the Prime Minister did not give instructions. So far, around 120 people have died and more than 3,000 have been injured in the violence that broke out between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur on May 3. 

What did the Congress say?
Describing the meeting as a formality, the Congress said that the Center should take serious initiative to restore peace in the state and the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh should be taken immediately.   Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh also said that PM Modi should break his silence on the matter.

Former Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, who attended the meeting on behalf of the Congress, said that peace is not possible with Biren Singh as the CM. He claimed that he was given a few minutes in the meeting, while he sought more time to present his views. 

What did TMC say?
TMC MP Derek O’Brien said after the meeting, ‘‘An all-party meeting on Manipur was held within 24 hours of the meeting of opposition parties in Patna. The opposition kept its point with solidarity. ’’ 

The TMC issued a statement regarding the all-party meeting, questioning whether the government was ‘trying to turn Manipur into Kashmir. It demanded an all-party delegation be sent to violence-hit Manipur. 

What did RJD say?
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Manoj Jha told that in the all-party meeting called on Manipur, almost all the opposition parties said that the people of Manipur did not trust the Chief Minister there. 

What did Uddhav Thackeray’s party say?
Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) Priyanka Chaturvedi said that I have met many groups of Manipur. They say that there is no faith in the CM. The Minister of State for External Affairs (Rajkumar Ranjan Singh) himself had said that the law and order situation in the state has gone haywire. Where does accountability begin? Accountability will start from the state.’’

What is the issue?
The ‘Tribal Unity March’ called by a students’ organization on May 3 to protest the demand for inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. Violence broke out. Shah had toured the state for four days last month and met people from different sections as part of his efforts to restore peace in Manipur.

Nadda, former Manipur Chief Minister and Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien, Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) leader Konrad Sangma, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader M. Thambi Durai, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Tiruchi Siva, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Pinaki Mishra, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader ) leader Manoj Jha attended. 

Apart from this, Union Ministers Prahlad Joshi, Nityanand Rai and Ajay Kumar Mishra, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka also attended the meeting.
