Monsoon 2023: After heavy rains across the country, devastation is being seen in many states. According to Home Ministry data, 624 people have died due to incidents related to heavy rains in India since the onset of monsoon in June, although it is about 32 per cent less than last year. This Home Ministry report collates the loss of agriculture and property as well as deaths after heavy rains in different states, after which the figure comes out. 

The total number of deaths in Himachal Pradesh
This year, the maximum outbreak of monsoon is being seen in Himachal Pradesh. 223 mm of rain has been recorded here, which is the highest for Solan and Una in the last 50 years. On the other hand, if we talk about deaths, 99 people have died in Himachal Pradesh so far this monsoon season, while 187 people died in 2022. 

Gujarat’s figure is more than Himachal
By the way, Gujarat’s figure is more than Himachal, because in the same year, Cyclone Biparjoy created havoc in Gujarat and later after heavy rains normal life came to a halt- been busy. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Home Affairs, a total of 103 people have died in Gujarat. There have been 87 deaths in Karnataka and 36 in Rajasthan. Apart from this, there have been 11 deaths in flood-affected Punjab and 19 in Haryana, whereas last year there were fewer deaths. On the other hand Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab, Yamunanagar and Karnal in Haryana are still under water. 

According to Home Ministry data, 38 people have died in Assam after rain-related incidents this year, which is much less than last year. Apart from this, there is news of death of 8 people in Manipur. There were 92 deaths in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra till June 15 this year. Apart from this, compared to the year 2022, many parts of India have received less rainfall than normal this year. According to the India Meteorological Department, 12 states including Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have received deficient rainfall.
