Agartala July 13: “WEEK-END”, a BB Entertainment Production is all set to get the red-carpet treatment as the local director Biswajit Bhuiya is scheduled to host the premiere of his debut feature film in Agartala.

“Week-end”, a horror-thriller movie is being billed as a state’s local production, unique and first of its kind entirely shot in Tripura with the cast and crew from the state itself.

In an exclusive interview with Tripura Times, Director Biswajit Bhuiya said he felt it is important to hold the premiere in his hometown for a number of reasons.

“The cinema in Tripura is a lesser-known aspect compared to Indian cinema although the state has a rich history and culture of its own. Cinema in Tripura is relatively a new phenomenon where in recent years few music videos, short films and local ads are shot in both Kokborok and Bengali languages”, he said.

Talking about his film Bhuiya said, “I wanted to make a complete cinema, one that complements the word in real terms. That is when I decided to work with the local artists here and directed the movie which is entirely shot in the beautiful locations of Tripura”.

The film features Puja Debnath, Hrishie Raj, Subhasish Kar, Shilpa Roy, Sanchayan Dey, Debolina Bhowmik and Suman Majumder in lead roles, story and direction by Biswajit Bhuiya, producer Puja Debnath, script by Sannidhya Das, DOP and Edit Anupam Goswami and Music by Tapash Dhar.

The shooting was completed in different locations of Tripura with Tepania Eco Park being the prime location.

With its premiere to be hosted at Agartala Town Hall on July 16 next, director Biswajit Bhuiya, born and bred in Tripura also hopes to bring a sequel of the film based on the response it gets from the audience.

He also informed to release the movie over OTT platform in August this year.

On being questioned about his interests or motivation that made Bhuiya to make films being a businessman, he said, “My first work in this sector was very personal. The criticisms by a section who said, ‘Garment Businessman is making Films’ also triggered me to further explore my hobby. A significant change occurred as I started viewing things from a personal standpoint that is when I took up few projects as a director”.

“The film is a horror-thriller type, has a twist at the end and also has an item song featuring the lead casts”, he said.

Bhuiya also mentioned his few other projects in this sector such as, Aami Durga, Dwitiya, Potrobondhu among others.

Briefing his experience as a director during the shooting of the film Week-end, Biswajit said, “Passion makes things happen and this film is all about all the passionate people coming in and joining hands together to make a mark in the state film industry”.

“None of us were professional artists or trained but had passion for the work and a bit of knowledge through a few of our earlier projects and together we made the film happen. The shoot days were tough though as the crew was limited, budget was limited but I am extremely happy with the final output”, he said.

“Trust me what you want to do as a director is easier to do than to explain”, he added.

Biswajit Bhuiya further said that all latest technology equipment and software were used in making the film, ‘Week-end’.

He also mentioned that working with the team and the actors was a splendid experience.

However, the director mentioned facing several challenges including lack of funding and support from the government for the state Bengali film industry which is utmost necessary to manage and thrive.

He said, “The shooting for the film Potrobondhu was completed almost a year ago, but despite several efforts and spending a lot of money in paperwork, we could not avail a platform to showcase the film. The same is with Week-end. We are doing a premiere of it and not a release. And the only way where people can watch the entire movie is on OTT platforms”.

Bhuiya tried to draw the attention of the state government and concerned departments as he said, “We do not need fundings, but a little support and scope to showcase our work and talent of the citizens of the state”.

“A platform, probably a hall room where films and productions of few other artists like me from the state can be showcased if the state government provides us the platform. This in turn will also boost the local culture and traditions. People will further come to know about the beautiful locations of Tripura that can be rented for shooting in future”, he said.

Biswajit hopes that with government’s support, the Tripura film industry might look bright in the global arena.
