Supreme Court On ED Director: The third extension of tenure granted to Sanjay Kumar Mishra as the Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was challenged in the Supreme Court. While giving the verdict on these petitions, on Tuesday (July 11), the Supreme Court, terming their extension as illegal, has ordered them to step down from the post by July 31. In fact, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court regarding the matter challenging the Centre’s decision.

The petitioners who challenged the verdict include Congress leaders Jaya Thakur, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and party spokesperson Saket Gokhale. The petitions alleged that the extension of the tenure of the ED director was destroying the democratic process of our country.

What did Randeep Surjewala say?

Now after the decision of the Supreme Court, the reaction of these petitioners is also coming to the fore. Congress MP Randeep Surjewala said that the Supreme Court has declared the extension of the tenure of ED Director Mishra as illegal, now three questions arise on the central government.

Surjewala said, "We have always said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been doing political misuse of agencies like ED and against political opponents. The way ED was released on different political parties, harassed, the basic institutions of democracy were shaken, democracy was weakened. All this has been proved today.

Mahua Moitra’s jibe at BJP

TMC MP Mahua Moitra said, "I have won my petition in the Supreme Court against the extension of the ED director. Thanks to the Supreme Court for the decision to invalidate the extension. We will fight with BJP in elections, fight in courts, fight on grounds and streets but will never surrender."

Petitioner Gokhale expressed happiness

Gokhale said, "The ED has become a tool of the BJP and the Modi government has not hidden this fact by repeatedly giving extensions to its favorite man. We are fighting to get democracy back. Every win counts."
