Jammu Kashmir News: Tension flared up again between Muslim and Buddhist communities in the peaceful area of ​​Kargil after a retired government employee allegedly raped a woman in Wakha village of Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir. The people of Kargil have also accused some police officers of trying to save the accused. The shocking incident came to light when a 21-year-old woman accused a retired watchman of the Food and Supplies Department, identified as Tsering Wangdus, of raping her. 

FIR lodged against the accused under several sections
A class of Tibetan astrologers and faith healers accused after retirement from government service "onpo" was working as an engineer and the woman had come to his house in Mulbeck neighborhood to treat her headache.

The woman lodged a complaint with her family at the Wakha police station in Kargil, saying that when she went to him for treatment, the accused had committed the crime by locking the door of her house.

According to Station House Officer Stanzin Paljor of Wakha Police Station, this heinous incident took place on Sunday (June 18) when the accused sexually assaulted the victim. While the victim was immediately taken to the hospital for medical examination, the accused was arrested on charges of rape and molestation.

Kargil police registered an FIR against the accused under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 354-A (sexual harassment), 354-B, 376/511 (attempt to rape), and 506 (criminal intimidation) . 

‘If action is not taken there will be a big protest’
Since the accused is from the Buddhist community and the victim is from the Muslim community, tension has started increasing in the area. On Saturday, the shutdown was called by the Jamiat-ul-Ulama Isna Ashriya Kargil, a Shia religious organization and was supported by traders, political and religious organizations and civil society.

According to Kargil’s senior social worker Sajjad Kargili, the entire area remained closed on Sunday because of the insensitivity shown by the police in the alleged rape case and no statement has been issued even after a week has passed. That’s why the people of Kargil got angry and had to give a strike call.   

The president of Jamiat Ul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil criticized the district police for not clarifying its stand on the recent alleged rape attempt case in Wakha village. Jamiat Ul Ulama President Sheikh Nazir Mahdi Mohammadi said that if the police do not take a clear stand on this matter of serious nature, they will be forced to organize a massive protest across Kargil district.

Accused taken in police remand for 9 days
Police trying to pacify angry residents said fair investigation is underway in Wakha case where a girl (not named) told) has complained of alleged physical molestation by a person. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kargil Anayat Ali Chowdhary said that the investigation in the case is underway and is in the initial stage and the accused has been taken in police remand for nine days.

SSP said, "The Wakha incident is under investigation and is being done in a very professional manner. Being a sensitive matter, the police will have to take extra precautions so that the investigation is not hampered and the victim girl is not inconvenienced." Police say that they have found some evidence in which the accused has been found guilty of offenses under certain sections. 

SSP urges to avoid rumours 
However, SSP Kargil Anayat Ali Chowdhary urged the people of Kargil not to pay heed to the rumors and said that the matter should be resolved by punishing the accused. Will be brought to fruition. The SSP also warned those spreading rumors and misinformation about the case and those trying to disturb the law and order situation in Kargil that they would be dealt with strictly under the law. 

Despite police threat, Kargil town observed complete shutdown on Sunday due to outrage and anguish against the alleged incident of molestation and attempted rape and ignored the agitation demanding Lieutenant Governor Brig BD Mishra to intervene in the matter They are also threatening to speed up and come on the streets.
