Maharashtra Politics: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar made a big disclosure while attacking Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday (June 29). He said that discussions were held with the BJP in 2019 to form the government in the state.

Former Chief Minister Sharad Pawar said, “When Devendra Fadnavis gave the wicket, we uprooted the wicket.” If someone is showing his wicket to the bowler, then how will the bowler leave him. Pawar further said that instead of making inappropriate comments, Fadnavis should focus on the safety of women."text-align: justify;"In fact, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said in an interview to a private TV channel that BJP had held talks with Sharad Pawar in 2019 to form the government in Maharashtra, but 2 days before swearing in with Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar retreated.

What did the NCP say?
According to news agency PTI, NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto said in a statement, ‘‘Eknath Shinde’s advertisements have decreased in the last few days. After being exposed, Devendra Fadnavis is trying to gain popularity and hence he is misusing Sharad Pawar’s name in the interview. This is so that the image of Eknath Shinde can be tarnished.

What happened in 2019?
After the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (then undivided) parted ways with long-time ally BJP over a dispute over the chief minister’s post. Relations were severed. Later suddenly Fadnavis was sworn in as Chief Minister and Ajit Pawar as Deputy CM at Raj Bhavan, although this government lasted only for 80 hours.

Thackeray later formed the Maha Vikas Aghadi government (MVA) in the state along with the NCP and the Congress. In June last year Eknath Shinde led a rebellion against the Shiv Sena leadership, leading to a split in the party and the fall of the MVA government. After this, Shinde formed the government with the BJP and himself became the Chief Minister.
