Agartala/Belonia Jul 13: In a bizarre incident, supposedly meant to increase the customer base for drug addiction, small children were unknowingly injected with drugs by a gang of peddlers dressed up in the uniform of nurses.
The incident reported from Belonia Barpathari Kukicherra High School triggered shockwaves across the state when a fifth standard student was admitted to the nearby hospital as he fell ill after being injected with drugs on Thursday.
According to details from local sources, unidentified men and women dressed as hospital workers pushed injections to small children in front of the school premises by calling them for deworming.
Prasenjit Sen, a fifth standard student from Kukicherra High School in Belonia was later rushed to the hospital where he said that two unknown women dressed as nurses came down from a Maruti van and called him for deworming injections and pushed the same in his hands.
Although few other students were also injected the same but no such reports of illness or admission to hospital have been reported yet.
The police of Belonia police station were informed about the incident.
However, the parents and teachers of the ill student alleged that the police did not come to the spot or to the hospital even after a couple of hours of reporting.
Meanwhile, such an incident has triggered tension among the parents and common people across the area.
