Karnataka Free Bus Travel Scheme: The Karnataka government is going to start a scheme for free travel in government buses for women in the state. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will launch the ‘Shakti’ scheme on June 11, one of the five election guarantees of the Congress. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister clarified on Saturday (June 10) that under the scheme women can travel free of cost only up to 20 km inside the bordering states.
The Chief Minister said that if women want to travel by interstate bus then this service is not free. If a woman wants to go to Tirupati, she cannot travel for free. He said that the Shakti Yojana would provide relief to the women of the state who were troubled by price rise. He along with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy will launch the scheme on Sunday from Vidhana Soudha.
Rules for free bus travel in Karnataka
He said that we are starting one of our five guarantees at 11 am. All women will be able to travel free within the state in all (state-owned) buses except AC and Volvo. In which express bus services are also included. The Chief Minister said that the visit to Tirupati will not be free. For this women can go till Mulbagal (Kolar district bordering Andhra Pradesh) and after that the journey will not be free. However, those traveling up to 20 km within neighboring states will not be charged.
When will the rest of the guarantees start?
Siddaramaiah said that for example, women can travel up to 20 km from Ballari within Andhra Pradesh for free. Talking about the launch of four other guarantees, the Chief Minister said that ‘Griha Jyoti’, which would provide 200 units of free electricity to domestic consumers, would be started from Kalaburagi from July 1. The ‘Anna Bhagya’ scheme to provide 10 kg free rice or food grains to BPL families will be launched from Mysuru on the same day.
