Agartala June 22: Numerous vendors and traders of different prime markets in capital city had to face a blow on Thursday for violating market prices of essential commodities and taking extra prices from the consumers.
Complying with the directions of Tripura Food Minister Sushanta Choudhury, the Sadar Administrative Officials on Thursday began special operation in various markets of the capital city in a bid to ensure necessary stock of commodities and prevent black market.
Speaking to the reporters on the day’s drive, an official said, “The drive is being conducted under the directions of food minister and Sadar District Magistrate to check on creation of artificial shortage of daily necessities and hike of prices of essentials”.
“We caught a number of traders and vendors who were taking Rs2-3 extra from the actual rate of commodities. Such as the price of 4 eggs should be Rs 26 but the vendors are taking Rs 30 from the consumers”, he said.
Along with taking legal action against such shopkeepers, the officials said, “The traders have been warned and asked not to take a single penny extra from the customers than the fixed price. Like Potatoes will be sold at Rs 20 per kg, Onion at Rs 30 per kg.”.
Having visited Durga Chowmani, Lake Chowmani markets on Thursday, the officials further said that such drives will continue in the coming days.
