Oommen Chandy Death: The mortal remains of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy were brought to his native village Puthupalli on Thursday (July 20) afternoon. Puthuppally was also Chandy’s assembly constituency and he represented the region for more than five decades.
Chandi died on Tuesday (July 18) at a hospital in Bengaluru and following a 36-hour journey from his residence in Thiruvananthapuram, the body was brought to his ‘Karottu Vallakkalil’ home in his native village Puthupalli.
It took 36 hours to take Oommen Chandy’s mortal remains to his ancestral home
The journey of this route of about 150 kilometers should have been completed in three to four hours, but it was delayed because thousands of people thronged the streets to pay their last respects to their beloved leader. Because of this, the speed of the vehicle carrying the mortal remains was kept slow and many times the vehicle had to be stopped.
Governor Arif Mohammad Khan along with these veterans paid tribute
Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, several actors of Malayalam cinema and senior leaders of various parties paid tributes to Chandy after his body was brought to Tirunakkara ground in Kottayam . Film actors Mammootty, Suresh Gopi and Dileep along with thousands of people including leaders of various parties paid tribute to the late leader.
Gloomy atmosphere in Oommen Chandy’s village
On the arrival of the dead body in Chandy’s native village, the atmosphere became inconsolable. After keeping for some time in the ancestral house in the village, the body will be taken to the house under construction. Prayers will be held at this house and after that the funeral procession will proceed to Puthupalli Church, where he will be buried.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will attend the funeral. He has already reached Kerala. Chandy’s last rites will be performed very simply as per his wishes.
