AAP Rally At Ramlila Ground: Delhi’s Ramlila Ground is the place which made Arvind Kejriwal the special face of the common man 12 years back. That was the time of Anna movement. When Kejriwal used to speak from the stage of Ramlila Maidan, there were no leaders like him, but everyone wanted to listen to him. When Kejriwal, who talked about never going into politics, entered politics by forming a party, he made such a grand entry that everyone was stunned. Now after 12 years, Kejriwal is again returning to the same Ramlila Maidan. Aam Aadmi Party has called a big rally at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday (June 11).
Kejriwal’s campaign for 2024
The Aam Aadmi Party has said that this rally is to gather public support against the new ordinance of the Center through which efforts have been made to curtail the powers of the elected government of Delhi. However, political analysts see it as the launch of Arvind Kejriwal’s campaign for 2024.
Kejriwal is trying to make a place in national politics and this is no longer a secret. After forming governments in Delhi and Punjab, AAP’s performance in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly has enthused both Kejriwal and the party. Gujarat Assembly Elections the Aam Aadmi Party got 5 seats and the party got 13 percent votes. After this performance, the Aam Aadmi Party was successful in achieving the status of a national party.
Why Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan?
If this was some other time, if there was no pressure on the ministers, Kejriwal might have started his campaign from some other state. But Kejriwal is aware of this difficult time and he also knows that if the rest of the forts have to be won, then Delhi’s fort will have to be strengthened first. This is the reason that on the pretext of this rally, there will be an attempt to give a message in his national politics, but at the same time he is also trying to show his intimidation that we are the boss in the eyes of the public. There is one more reason also. Still, the organizational structure of the party in other states is not strong enough to organize large rallies.
Kejriwal trailing in the 2024 race
Less than a year is left for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. At this time, the opposition parties are trying to unite against PM Modi. At a time when all parties have stepped up their political preparations, Kejriwal has been meeting leaders in different states for the last 20 days to garner support against the Centre’s new ordinance. The rally at Ramlila Maidan is the perfect opportunity for Kejriwal to project himself as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His party has also started creating an atmosphere for this. Speaking to India Today, AAP MLA from Delhi Dilip Pandey said, everyone knows who can stop Modi’s chariot.
Will it be possible to get closer to the Congress?
Be it Delhi or Punjab, wherever the Aam Aadmi Party formed the government, it removed the Congress and prepared its place. Not only this, the votes polled by the party in the Gujarat Assembly also show that the loss was not to the BJP but to the Congress. The Aam Aadmi Party got 13 per cent votes while the Congress lost about the same percentage of votes as compared to 2017. This is the reason why nothing has been said on supporting Kejriwal. Although, Kejriwal has written letters to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, but both have not yet opened their cards. In such a situation, Kejriwal’s rally to be held on Sunday will be watched by everyone as to what stand he takes towards the Congress. Everyone’s eyes will be on this rally because a few days later, on June 23, Nitish Kumar has called a big meeting of opposition parties in Bihar. Kejriwal has also been invited.
