Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey Peace Message: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey has appealed to the people to bring peace and normalcy in the state regarding the ethnic violence. In a message to the people of Manipur, the Governor said that he was deeply shocked and dismayed by the ethnic conflict between the two communities that has been going on for nearly two months.
Anusuiya Uikey said, "I appeal to all irrespective of caste, creed and religion to extend their full cooperation to solve the problem through amicable and peaceful dialogue, so that our age-old tradition of co-existence can be maintained."
‘Economy’s backbone affected’ – Governor
The Governor of Manipur said, "I am deeply shocked and dismayed by the unprecedented ethnic conflict between two communities that took place on 3rd May, which is still going on, in which many lives have been lost and many are injured. In addition, innumerable houses of both the communities were torched and properties were damaged. Since the horrific incident, thousands of people from both the communities have been displaced and are taking shelter in several relief camps in both the valley and hill districts."
She said that she strongly condemns such inhuman act. Anusuiya Uikey said, "Due to these unbelievable incidents, paddy farming activities, the backbone of the state’s economy, have been adversely affected, as the farmers are not in a position to work in their respective fields without any fear."
‘Peaceful dialogue should be resolved’
The Governor said that I have full faith that such inhuman acts will not be tolerated by the youth, especially children. Those who are the pillars of the future of the state will be adversely affected. They said,"I wholeheartedly appeal to all of you, especially mothers and sisters, to avoid stopping the security forces on the roads as they are discharging their responsibilities for the safety of the people of the state."
He said that the most important thing is that everyone should not believe in spreading baseless rumors and should always try to avoid it. All issues can and should be resolved through peaceful dialogue to restore peaceful atmosphere in the state. He said through this message, "My dear citizens of Manipur, finally, I once again appeal to you to lead a peaceful life in the coming days and years."
