Agartala June 13: Horticulture Research Complex, Nagicherra Fruit Block is all set to display the exuberant varietal diversity of Tripura mangoes here on Wednesday.
The extravaganza will be inaugurated by State Minister for Agriculture Ratan Lal Nath along with other officials of the department.
During the fiesta, a plethora of at least 40 varieties of the king of fruits-Mango will be displayed that are being cultivated in different parts of the stater at present.
Speaking to the reporters in this regard, Deputy Director Dr Rajib Ghosh said, “there are more than thousand varieties of mangoes and among this, 350 varieties are cultivated across the globe for business purposes”.
“Considering the climate and soil conditions in Tripura, farmers residing in different areas of the state are successfully producing 40 different varieties of mangoes”, he said.
Apart from the local common varieties, extra-ordinary varieties brought from Thailand, Singapore, America and other countries are also successfully cultivated by Tripura farmers.
Ghosh further said, “The display of around 40 different varieties of mouth-watering mangoes includes the commercial varieties, juicy varieties, pickle varieties, hybrids, colored and polyembryonic varieties that will provide the mango lovers, nature enthusiasts a perfect chance of satisfaction”.
The officials added that the Mango, being the most important and choicest fruit crop in entire India gives a huge scope for the state farmers to uplift their socio-economic condition and earn a better livelihood.
“The farmers must not be confined to the local varieties but also try their hands on extra ordinary unique varieties and for that the department will lend all possible help”, said the officials.
Unique varieties of Mangoes known as “Miazaki”, “Apple Palmer” and local varieties such as Himsagar, Ampalli, Mallika, Dosheri among others will be displayed for the visitors during the fiesta.
