Agartala June 15: Raising five point demands in interest of TUEP workers, a delegation of women leaders owing allegiance to All India Democratic Women’s’ Association (AIDWA), Abhoynagar Local Committee placed deputation to the Director, Urban Development Department on Thursday.
Speaking to the reporters, one of the women leaders said, “Earlier, common people could eat two times with the wages from TUEP work. But now, because of the uncertain situations prevailing in this sector, people are spending days in extreme hardships”.
She further alleged that despite contacting the local Councilor of Abhoynagar area, nothing has been done in this regard yet.
The left women leaders added, “The present state government had promised to increase the wages under REGA and TUEP work to Rs 340 and also provide 200 days work every year. But even after 6 years of the government in the state, nothing has been done to fulfill the promises”.
Instead, TUEP workers are terminated from their works without citing any proper reason, they alleged.
The women activists warned to stage larger movement in near days if the demands are not met by the concerned authorities at the earliest.
