Agartala Jul 07: As the Tripura Legislative Assembly Budget session commenced from Friday, the opposition must raise the demand for proper justice to the Raiyabari victims, who were evicted from their residences on May 25, last.
With the demand for proper rehabilitation and compensation for the Raiyabari victims by the state government, state unit of three left bodies comprising Tripura People’s Party, SUCI and CPI(ML) staged protest demonstration at Orient Chowmani premises on Friday.
Briefing the whereabouts of the protest, left leader Partha Karmakar said, “The families who were illegally and forcefully evicted from Raiyabari by the state government without making any alternative arrangements for the poor people on May 25 last, wrote to the opposition leaders including Animesh Debbarma, Jiten Choudhury and Gopal Roy”.
“Those families are spending days in extreme hardship and are left with nothing. But even after one and half months of the forceful eviction, the state government has not taken any steps towards their welfare”, he said.
“We therefore demand the opposition leaders to raise the issue in the assembly session and ensure that the state government immediately takes steps to provide one time compensation and rehabilitation of the evicted poor residents of Raiyabari”, he added.
