Keep lights, fans off unless necessary to save energy, says power minister – aabtak24

Agartala June 05: State minister for Power, Ratan Lal Nath presided over a program on the occasion of World Environment Day organized under the initiative of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).

The celebrations started in the corporation office with an awareness cycle rally on Monday morning.

A group of youth participated in the cycle rally carrying awareness posters pressing for a green and clean environment. State Vidyut Nigam Managing Director Debashis Sarkar, Tripura Power Transmission Limited General Manager Ranjan Debbarman and other officials remained present at the rally.

Later, state minister for power, Ratan Lal Nath inaugurated the main event by lighting the lamp.

Addressing the program, minister Ratan Lal Nath called for change in lifestyle of common people to press for a change of the environment.

He said, “The theme of WED 2023 is to beat plastic pollution. It is a reminder for all of us that extensive use of plastic must be put to an end and in that place, bags made from paper, cloth and other bio-degradable material must be used”.

Nath further urged various organizations, social or political, youths, stakeholders, to work in the direction of addressing the challenges that have posed a threat to the environment and plant trees in large numbers for a greener and cleaner nature.

The minister further criticized common people for wasting water and later blocking road and protesting claiming water crisis.

“A check must be put on wastage of water. Glasses must be used for water distribution in gatherings instead of one time bottle as a lot of water is wasted because of it. Crisis of water results from wastage and later those people only come down on road and start protesting by blocking”, he said.

He also emphasized on keeping the electric lights, fans etc. off, setting the AC temperature at 24° C to save energy.

“If the AC machine is set at 24 degrees Celsius, it is possible to reduce the electricity bill by at least 6%”, he said.

At the same time, the minister further emphasized on the use of LED bulbs instead of conventional bulbs.

Besides, as the water level is going down and the rain is decreasing, he also said to plant trees on a large scale.

Ratan Lal Nath also took part in a tree plantation ceremony at the electricity office here on Monday.
