West Bengal Panchayat Election 2023: During the voting for the Panchayat elections in West Bengal on Saturday, July 8, there was a lot of violence. The death toll in the state has reached 20 due to the violence that started before voting. At the same time, since the announcement of elections, 39 political workers have been murdered so far. BJP has targeted the West Bengal government regarding the violence. At the same time, a senior officer of the Border Security Force (BSF) deployed for the election has said that he was not informed about the sensitive booths.

On Saturday evening, TMC worker Matiur Rahman came to cast his vote at a polling station in Baishnavnagar. Late night he was stabbed to death with knives. TMC has blamed Congress for this. 

Election Commission did not give information about sensitive booths – BSF

BSF has said that despite repeated requests, it was not provided information about sensitive booths by the State Election Commission. BSF DIG SS Guleria told ANI that several letters were written to the State Election Commissioner for information on sensitive booths, but no information was provided except on July 7. During that time only booth numbers were given but no information was given about their location or other things.

He told that only 4834 sensitive booths were declared in the state, on which CAPF personnel were deployed, but in reality there were many more sensitive booths than this.

BJP attacks Mamata Banerjee

BJP has attacked Mamta Banerjee government regarding violence in panchayat elections. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said, Mamta Banerjee government has made a mockery of the elections. He tweeted and wrote, TMC workers were caught red-handed while changing ballot boxes with the help of contractors and local administration before reaching the strong room at many places. BJP MP Khagen Murmu, local MLA and Zilla Parishad candidate caught him doing this at Gajol (Haji Naku MD High School) in Malda. Similar incidents were also reported at other places including East and West Medinipur.
