India opposes China’s BRI project at SCO summit, PM said – respect for sovereignty is necessary -aabtak24


India On China’s BRI: India on Tuesday (July 4) once again refused to support China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) at the SCO summit. India is the only country in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) not to support this project. A statement issued at the end of the conference said that Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan reiterated their support for the BRI. 

There is increasing criticism in the world of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project for the development of infrastructure to connect different countries. India has been raising strong objections to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) passing through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. while other member states supported the project.

PM at the summit Narendra Modi highlighted the need to promote connectivity, but stressed that while making such efforts, it is necessary to respect the basic principles of the SCO Charter, especially the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the member states Is. The PM said that better connectivity not only enhances mutual trade, but also increases mutual trust, but in these efforts, it is very important to respect the basic principles of the SCO Charter, especially the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the member states.

Referring to Afghanistan, Prime Minister Modi said that India’s concerns and expectations regarding Afghanistan are similar to most of the SCO countries. We have to make joint efforts for the welfare of the people of Afghanistan. He said that India and the people of Afghanistan share age-old friendly relations and in the last two decades, we have contributed immensely to the economic and social development of Afghanistan.&nbsp ;

PM said that it is necessary that the land of Afghanistan is not used to spread instability in neighboring countries, or to encourage extremist ideologies. Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) includes India, Russia, China, Pakistan, Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are included. It is considered an important economic and security group.
