Agartala March 27: Dipak Majumder will secure a victory with record margin; says Late MLA Surajit Dutta’s wife as the blessed the BJP candidate for Ramnagar bypolls prior submitting the nomination papers on Wednesday.

As the countdown to the Lok Sabha elections begins, the political landscape in Tripura is ablaze with activity.

While the party has nominated former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb for the West Tripura Parliamentary seat and its ally TIPRA Motha candidate Kriti Singh Deb Barman for the East seat, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder has been nominated as the ruling party’s candidate for Ramnagar by elections.

The by- election to Ramnagar assembly constituency of Agartala has been necessitated following the death of senior BJP leader and 7th times MLA, former minister Surajit Dutta who died in December last year following several health ailments and will be held along with the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Tripura on April 19.

Wednesday, the enthusiasm among the BJP workers reached a crescendo as they gathered in large numbers to express their solidarity with the candidate, Dipak Majumder.

A colourful rally marched the streets of the capital city as Dipak Majumder submitted his nomination papers to the Returning Officer for Ramnagar bypolls, Additional SDM, Bipul Das.

Talking to the reporters, Majumder said, “I am indebted towards the party leadership for offering me this opportunity to fight the election and I am grateful towards the people who came all the way to support me considering my record and performance in the AMC for the last three years”.

Talking about ex-MLA Late Surajit Dutta’s wife for accompanying him, Majumder said, “Surajit Dutta has served this constituency for more than a decade. He is a father figure to the people in this area and I will try to work hard and live up to the expectations of the people”.

State BJP general secretary Papiya Dutta, AMC Councilors and other senior leaders accompanied Dipak Majumder in the day’s program.
