Agartala, June 21: In a goodwill gesture, Dr. Manik Saha-led cabinet responded to the appeal of nonagenarian Lakshmi Sinha, wife of Tripura’s first Chief Minister late Sachindra Lal Sinha, and allocated a government quarter to her.
The contributions of the former Chief Minister were remembered in the cabinet meeting on Wednesday and a Type-IV quarter was approved for late Sinha’s spouse. As per the decision, she will be entitled to get the benefit lifelong. She is currently residing at Faridabad, Haryana.
Sinha, who held the position of Chief Minister from July 1, 1963 to July 1, 1971, made huge contributions towards building modern Tripura. He was a freedom fighter. He was elected as MP, Lok Sabha from West Tripura seat.
The Bangladesh government honoured him with prestigious ‘Friends of Liberation War’ posthumously in 2012 for his outstanding contribution in 1971 war. He passed away in Delhi on December 9, 2000.
