Dharmanagar, Jun 22: On Thursday, a delegation representing the Al India Farmers’ Assembly, Tripura Khetmajur Union (Tripura State Farmers’ Union), and the GMP Panisagar subdivisional Committee submitted a list of 11 demands to the Superintendent of Panisagar Agriculture. The demands include ensuring the availability of essential resources such as fertilizers, medicines, and pesticides, as well as reintroducing rice cultivation using the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method.
The delegation emphasized the need for activities like rice transplanting, field selection, and completion of all agricultural tasks, despite the significant damage caused by excessive rainfall and extensive flooding. They urged the authorities to provide financial assistance to affected farmers to alleviate their economic hardships.
Furthermore, the delegation highlighted the challenges faced by jute growers and called for the free distribution of fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, and financial support for jute workers. They also stressed the importance of distributing agricultural machinery, including tillers, paddy threshers, and rice harvesting machines, among the farming community through subsidies. The delegation requested a halt to the eviction of patta beneficiaries, suggesting the implementation of government projects to provide financial aid to these beneficiaries.
In addition, the delegation emphasized the need for official appointments and staff recruitment in the Department of Agriculture and the Horticulture Department. They urged the authorities to maintain the infrastructure related to irrigation effectively. The delegation also urged for an increase in the number of rice procurement centres and emphasized the importance of timely rice procurement. They further advocated that all pending elections of the Agricultural Department should be conducted through the Gram Sabha.
Present at today’s delegation were GMPI Panisagar Mahkuma Committee’s members Shital Das, Motilal Das, Amar Ray, Sukesh Nath, and Debachand Manik Halam, along with other leaders of the organizations representing All India Framers’ Assembly, Tripura Khetmajur Union.
