Amogh Das had commented on Swami Vivekananda and his Guru Ramakrishna Paramhans, on which a controversy had arisen. ISKCON issued a statement informing about the ban on its saint. 

ISKCON said in a statement issued on Tuesday (July 11), Amogh Leela Prabhu has accepted that he made a mistake by making inappropriate comments about Swami Vivekananda and his guru. He will keep himself away from all social life for a month as penance. It has been said in the statement that Amogh Leela Das has apologized for his comment. Along with this, he will go to the hills of Govardhan for a month as an atonement.

Amogh Leela Das is a spiritual preacher. He is also very popular on social media. His discourses and motivational speeches on religion often trend on social media platforms. His style of speaking is also well liked. During one of his discourses, he made a remark about Swami Vivekananda’s eating fish, which became a controversy.

Journey from Software Engineer to Saint

The real name of Amogh Leela Das is Ashish Arora. He was born in Lucknow. He also mentions his journey of becoming a saint in his discourses. According to the information available on social media, in the year 2000, during his intermediate studies, he got inclined towards spirituality. He also left home but returned and studied software engineering.

In 2004, he started a job in an American company, but within 6 years he was fed up with the job and decided to go on the path of retirement in 2010. He was only 29 years old when he became a monk.

Why was Amogh Leela Das banned?

Amogh Leela Das raised the question of Swami Vivekananda’s eating fish in one of his discourses. Addressing the people, he said, will a virtuous person eat fish? Fish feel pain too, right? Will a virtuous person eat fish? He also commented on Swami Vivekananda’s guru Ramakrishna Paramhansa.

When the video of the comments surfaced, this issue became hot on the social media. People started condemning Amogh Leela Das, after which ISKCON decided to take action. ISKCON said that it is pained by the unfathomable Leela Das’s understanding of these two great personalities and the inappropriate and unacceptable comments about them.
