Agartala Jul 05: East Agartala Police on Wednesday busted a gang of battery thieves and arrested three persons in connection with the stealing of e-rickshaw batteries from various areas of the city and also recovered several other items.
Briefing the media persons in this regard, West SP Kiran Kumar said, “With information from our sources, two thieves were at first caught red handed as they were dismantling batteries from e-rickshaws. And later, another was nabbed in connection with similar thefts”.
“Many more are expected to be a part of this gang who have spread their network and are looting various valuables of common people. Interrogation of the detained will lead to other accused and also recovery of other items will be done”, he added.
Along with recovery of many batteries, a water-pump machine, laptop and mobile phones were also recovered by police.
The detainees have been identified as Asish Saha, Tamal Paul and Bapi Debnath. Police have also registered a case against the accused persons under sections 448, 457, 380, 401 and 382 (D) of IPC.
