Amarnath Yatra Update: Many passengers have died after the Amarnath Yatra started this year. With the death of five more Amarnath pilgrims during the last 24 hours, the death toll in this year’s Amarnath Yatra has risen to 19. This is the highest single-day death toll during the yatra due to natural causes.
According to Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board officials, these five deaths take the death toll in this year’s yatra to 19, including an ITBP officer and a serviceman on yatra duty.
Officials said on Wednesday (July 12) that most of the pilgrims died due to cardiac arrest and underlying medical conditions.
Where and how many deaths occurred
While three deaths occurred on the Pahalgam route of the Yatra and two deaths occurred at different points on the Baltal route of the Amarnath Yatra. Four pilgrims were from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh among the dead, while one passenger is yet to be identified.
1,37,353 pilgrims have visited
So far 1,37,353 pilgrims have visited the cave temple to have darshan of the naturally formed ice lingam. On the other hand, after the Jammu-Srinagar highway was declared open for traffic, a new batch of more than 10,000 pilgrims left for the cave on Tuesday (July 12) morning.
Let us tell you that due to heavy and incessant rains last week, the highway was blocked due to landslides, floods and road submergence at many places.
