Karnataka PSI Recruitment Scam: A decision by the newly-elected Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka has put the future of 545 newly appointed police sub-inspectors in the state in limbo. In fact, to investigate the alleged scam in these recruitments during the BJP rule, the government has constituted a judicial commission, which will be investigated by a retired judge of the High Court.
The Congress had slammed the then BJP government for alleged irregularities and corruption in the recruitment of 545 PSIs. It was one of the main weapons against the saffron party during its campaign for the assembly elections.
Police ordered a CID probe
Following allegations of manipulation of exam results, the then government ordered a probe by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which arrested several officials of the Police Recruitment Cell, including its then chief Additional Director General of Police Amrit Paul, and a large number of candidates who took the exam. The government also canceled the results of the exam and decided to hold re-exams.

Karnataka government order asks CID and police recruitment wing to provide information and all possible cooperation to the judicial commission with all necessary documents related to the case. Apart from this, the DG and IGP have been asked to ensure that the commission is provided with an office in Bengaluru with necessary facilities and staff.
