Agartala, June 27: An official of the Education department on Tuesday said the admission process in all General Degree Colleges is underway as per the guidelines of New Education Policy.
Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat, Secretary of Education department- Saradindu Chowdhury said, the admission process commenced from June 16 last and it would continue till July 14 next.
He said, there would be four-year degree courses for the students. If any student drops out before completion of the course, a certificate would be provided. As per the NEP, the students would get marks based on attendance report.
Chowdhury also said, the NEP has been implemented in 25 General Degree Colleges, Tripura Central University and Maharaja Bir Bikram University from the Academic Year 2023-24.
The total number of seats in 25 colleges is 28,342. This year, the number of applications submitted for college admissions is 49,662. The students would get admission based on merits. The students who couldn’t fill up applications for various reasons would be given admissions through spot rounds, the Secretary told reporters.
He also said, the state government has already initiated several plans for development of infrastructures in various degree colleges. An amount of Rs. 8.40 crore has already been spent for beautification and renovation of Maharaja Bir Bikram College. Besides, a project of Rs.40 crore has been undertaken for development of Netaji Subhash Mahavidyalaya under Subarna Jayanti Tripura Nirman Yojana.
Higher Education Director N.C. Sahrma was also present in the press conference.
