Agartala Jul 04: Record price of green chillies and other vegetables have turned home kitchens too hot across the state of Tripura.
In a bid to assess the reasons behind skyrocketing prices of essential vegetables and to check the rates of commodities in wholesale and retail outlets, a team of officials under state Foor Department visited different shops at the city’s prime Maharajganj market here on Tuesday.
Having inspected the prices of chilli, tomato, ginger and other vegetables, the food department authorities said that there is no shortage of stock nor there is any glitch in terms of transportation.
Therefore, the soared prices of chilli and other vegetables are expected to go down in the next few days, said the officials.
“Although the vendors were unable to explain the reason behind such a hiked price of chillies and other vegetables, we noted that the prices are already decreasing and with more stocks arriving shortly, the prices will go down further”, said one of the officials.
Apart from visiting vegetable selling outlets, the team also raided several grocery shops and detected a few with expired items.
Seizing the license of two such grocery shops, the team of officials informed of taking proper action as per norms.
Besides, legal action was also initiated against a sweet shop that was using domestic LPG gas cylinders instead of commercial gas.
