Teesta Setalvad Bail: Teesta Setalvad has got relief from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has granted bail to Teesta in the case of filing a fake affidavit in the Gujarat riots case. On July 1, the High Court canceled Teesta’s bail and asked her to surrender. Teesta will no longer have to go to jail after the Supreme Court’s order.
The arrest took place last year
On June 25, 2022, Gujarat Police arrested Teesta. On September 2, 2022, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail. The Supreme Court had asked Teesta to approach the lower court or the Gujarat High Court for regular bail. Now the Gujarat High Court has refused to grant regular bail to Teesta in view of the evidence presented by the police. The police had told that Teesta presented fabricated evidence in the court to destabilize the then state government. Got the witnesses also filed false affidavits.
Supreme Court had made strict remarks
Last year, the Supreme Court rejected the petition of Zakia Jafri, wife of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, who was killed in the riots. Zakia had demanded to reject the investigation report of the SIT constituted by the court. Rejecting this demand, the Supreme Court also commented on Teesta Setalvad.
The Supreme Court had said that Teesta used Zakia for her own benefit. Teesta’s aim was somehow to keep this matter alive for a long time, so that she could continue to benefit from it. Legal action should be taken against such people. After this Teesta was arrested by the Gujarat Police.
