The clashes began after a tribal solidarity march was organized in the hill districts on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. At least 160 people have lost their lives in the state since then. Internet is suspended in the state, thousands of houses have been burnt, a large number of people are living in shelter homes or forests.
