Gandhi Peace Prize 2021 Row: The war of words has started between BJP and Congress after the announcement of award of Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2021 to Gorakhpur-based famous Gita Press. Congress has criticized this decision. Now Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also tweeted on this matter. He said on Monday (June 19), "If India’s glorious ancient Sanatan culture and base texts can be read easily today, Geeta Press has an incomparable contribution in it."

Shah further said, "For more than 100 years, Gita Press has been doing a wonderful job of selflessly taking many holy books like Ramcharit Manas to Shrimad Bhagwad Gita to the masses. Geeta Press receiving the Gandhi Peace Prize 2021 is an honor for these Bhagirath works being done on their behalf." The award will be given to Geeta Press for its outstanding contribution towards social, economic and political change through non-violent and other Gandhian methods.

Jairam Ramesh criticized

Congress has criticized the award given to Gita Press. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said, "The Gandhi Peace Prize for 2021 is being awarded to Geeta Press in Gorakhpur, which is celebrating its centenary year this year. Akshay Mukul has written a very good biography of this institute in 2015. In it, he reveals the ups and downs of the institution’s relationship with the Mahatma and the battles it fought with him over political, religious and social agendas."

If India’s glorious ancient Sanatan culture and base texts can be read easily today, Geeta Press has an incomparable contribution in it. For more than 100 years, Gita Press has been instrumental in selflessly taking many sacred texts from Ramcharit Manas to Shrimadbhagwadgita to the masses…

Some senior Congress leaders do not agree with Ramesh

He further said, "This decision is actually a travesty and is like awarding Savarkar and Godse." According to sources, some senior Congress leaders did not seem to agree with Jairam Ramesh’s tweet opposing the Gandhi Peace Prize to Geeta Press. He called it unnecessary.

The Gandhi Peace Prize for 2021 has been conferred on the Gita Press at Gorakhpur which is celebrating its centenary this year. There is a very fine biography from 2015 of this organization by Akshaya Mukul in which he unearths the stormy relations it had with the Mahatma and theā€¦

Geeta Press has played a major role in the propagation of Hinduism. Geeta Press was started in the year 1923 and is one of the largest publishers in the world, which has published 417 million books in 14 languages. These include 16.21 crore copies of Shrimad‍Bhagavad‍Gita.
