Jayant Chaudhary On Wrestlers Protest: RLD National President Jayant Chaudhary has targeted the central government while supporting the wrestlers. He said on Sunday (June 4), "The government is celebrating 9 years. Did it happen before 9 years that the caste of girls was seen. There is only one talented young man in this country, Jay Shah, make him the president of the wrestling association. Don’t even make a player, no one will say anything."
Jayant Chowdhary further said, "Whatever policies the wrestlers make, we are with them. I will not support any aggressive decision. Climbing will not happen all at once, one step has to be seen, one has to be organized. I would support that when the fight is one then the stage should also be the same." Wrestlers are protesting demanding the arrest of outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Alleged sexual harassment
Wrestlers have accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment of women wrestlers. The Delhi Police has registered two FIRs against Brij Bhushan, the first one under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act based on the allegations of a minor wrestler. On Tuesday, several eminent wrestlers including Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sangeeta Phogat had reached Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar to protest against no action against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Government given time till June 9
All these wrestlers had gone to the river Ganges to shed their medals, but on the persuasion of Khap and farmer leaders, they did not do so and returned. After this, a Khap mahapanchayat was held first in Muzaffarnagar in UP and then in Kurukshetra in Haryana in support of the wrestlers. During this, the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was demanded and the government was given time till June 9 to take action on this issue. Khap said that if the demand is not met, the farmers will go to Jantar Mantar on June 9 with the protesting wrestlers.
