Action On Drugs In Assam: Police has taken major action against the illegal business of drugs in Assam. Assam STF and Kamrup district police have seized heroin worth about Rs 11 crore in two separate operations. STF DIG Partha Sarathi has given this information to news agency ANI.
DIG told ANI that on the basis of secret information, Kamrup district police launched an operation late on Saturday (July 1) night. During this, 700 grams of heroin was recovered from a vehicle. Along with this, three smugglers were also arrested. The value of the seized drugs has been estimated at around Rs 11 crore. Police is investigating further.
Assam Police’s drive against drugs continues
Assam Police has been waging a campaign against drugs for a long time. Earlier, on the night of 25 June, a large consignment of drugs worth Rs 18 crore was seized from Guwahati and hajj. The same night, Karimganj police in Assam recovered heroin worth Rs 25 crore in a successful operation against drug peddlers.
Drugs worth more than 1500 crore seized in two years
Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh had told in May 2023 that the Assam Police has seized illegal drugs worth Rs 1,430 crore since May 2021. 9,309 suspected drug smugglers have been arrested in the campaign. He gave this information on his Twitter page.
Assam DGP had said that the narcotics seized by the police include 239 kg of heroin, 71,902 kg of ganja, 283 kg of opium, 98.68 lakh psychotropic pills, 4.78 lakh cough syrup bottles, 214 kg of cannabis and 40 kg of cocaine. At the same time, drugs worth about Rs 80 crore have been seized since then.
According to the DGP, the police had also destroyed opium cultivation on more than 400 acres of land and cannabis cultivation on about 20 acres of land in different districts.
