9th International Yoga Day: Yoga is a holistic way to improve mental and physical health, Says Tripura CM – aabtak24

Agartala June 21: Based on the theme of ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, that encapsulates collective aspiration for “One Earth, One Family, One Future”, 9th International Day of Yoga was celebrated across the state with the prime state-level event at International Exhibition Hall, Hapania under the initiative of Tripura Youth Affairs and Sports Department here on Wednesday.

Yoga is a precious gift of ancient India that develops mindfulness by controlling the body and minf, said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha as he inaugurated the International Yoga Day program.

“With the concerted efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the United Nations has declared June 21 as Yoga Day since the year 2015. And today, this day is celebrated in not only India but in different countries across the globe”, he said.

The chief minister further said, “Yoga is a journey for oneself and everyone must include the same in their everyday schedule”.

Hailing the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr Saha further added, “Celebration of Yoga Day and the recognition that our ancient Indian Practices of Yoga got is one of the many steps taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that have been enthusiastically accepted by common masses”.

He also said, the regular practice of Yoga by the Indian Prime Minister despite his busy schedule is an inspiration for many and the youths must learn from him.

Speaking at the event, Sports Minister Tinku Roy said that much of the country’s heritage was lost during the British and Mughal rule in India.

But ever since Narendra Modi took charge as the Prime Minister, he has been constantly working to revive the country’s dignity and heritage.

“Both body and mind can be kept healthy if one practices yoga on a regular basis. And this in turn will decrease the vulnerability to various diseases and reduce the cost of medicine and treatment”, he said.

On the occasion, the sports minister urged everyone to make yoga an essential part of daily life.

Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Secretary, Youth Affairs and Sports Department P K Chakraborty also spoke on the occasion.

Tripura Assembly Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Pal, Badharghat MLA Mina Rani Sarkar among others also remained present on the dais.

Besides, 15 yoga mats were given to schools that participated in the Yoga Day celebrations by Tripura State Branch of AYUSH Mission.

In the second phase of the program, all the dignitaries along with the Chief Minister, Sports Minister did yoga exercises.

Later, the chief minister also took part in the Yoga Day celebrations at NSRCC Complex organized under the initiative of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Tripura Pradesh and encouraged all for regular yoga practice.
