Agartala, June 22: Minister for Power Ratanlal Nath on Thursday said, 184 km underground power cable was laid in Agartala from 2018 to 2023.
Addressing a press conference in his chamber at the Secretariat, Nath said, the works for laying underground cable in the city had started in 2012 and only 60-km power line was laid till 2018.
According to the Power minister, a plan is in the pipeline to lay more 189 km underground power lines in the city with the financial assistance under Special Plan Assistance and Asian Development Bank.
Besides, Nath said, works for laying 46-km underground lines (HT and LT) are underway under the Smart City Mission.
He said, out of total 18,091 km HT lines in the whole state, the underground cable is 821 km and out of total 31,802 km LT lines, 6134 km is aerial bunch and 19 km is underground cable.
Nath said, at present 197 km HT lines and 854 km LT lines are there in the Agartala city. Among them, 197 km HT and 38 km LT lines would be converted into underground cable in the next two years.
Despite an increase in the demand for power, the electricity supply is normal in the state, he told reporters. He also said, the department is working relentlessly to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
The minister also said, 395 power consumers in the city submitted their applications to the TSECL highlighting demand for power and the department already responded to appeals of 326 consumers.
