Agartala, July 05: Congress leader Prasanta Bhattacharjee and Trinamool Congress leader Ashis Lal Singha, son of former Chief Minister Sachindralal Singha, among others joined Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday.
BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee along with Minister for Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury and party’s state general secretary Amit Rakshit officially welcomed them followed by a press conference at the state party office.
Bhattacherjee was the state general secretary of Pradesh Congress. But, he expressed resentment after Ashis Kumar Saha recently became the Congress state president.
They expressed that the development in the state under the BJP government and leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha attracted them to join the saffron camp.
According to Bhattacharjee, the Congress party has turned bankrupt and it is now functioning by holding the Leftist arms. He also said, the Congress party has been given to an individual on lease.
Speaking to the media, the Minister for Tourism invited the other opposition activists to join the Bharatiya Janata Party and participate in the development journey under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, BJP is the only alternative for the people.
The state president, who welcomed the opposition leaders to the saffron brigade, said various programmes would continue across the state till July 18 to mark 9 years of Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan under the Modi-led government.
He also thanked Dr. Manik Saha-led government for two important cabinet decisions according to which PRTC is now mandatory for all government jobs and the government would procure 35000MT paddy from the local farmers at MSP in this Kharif season.
Meanwhile, MP and Pradesh BJP in-charge Dr. Mahesh Sharma, who arrived in the state on Wednesday, held a meeting with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and discussed important organizational matters.
