Agartala, Feb 22: A woman in her 6th month of pregnancy delivered a baby boy in an auto on her way to Teliamura Hospital on Tuesday night. It was alleged the ‘pre-mature’ delivery happened owing poor road condition.
The woman, Swapna Debbarma, hails from Dukhai Jamader hamlet at Duski under Teliamura sub-divisional hospital. As her health condition deteriorated, family members of Debbarma hired an auto to take her to Teliamura Hospital.
However, the road condition along the stretch between Jamader para and Teliamura Lal Tila is in pathetic condition for quite a long time.
“As auto was moving ahead through the rough stretch, condition of Swapna further deteriorated and she delivered a boy in the auto”, said Swapna’s relatives.
After they reached Teliamura Hospital, doctors treated the mother and new born baby. The doctors found the baby “pre matured” and referred the mother-son duo to GB Hospital.
Meantime, family members of Swapna held poor road condition as the reason behind the early delivery.
They also said local people of Jamadar para and adjoining areas made several pleas to concerned authority to press for repairing of the road. However, their pleas went in vain.
“The authority must initiate steps for repairing the damaged stretch of the road without further delay. The road has become a death trap especially for patients”, Swapna’s family members said.
