Maharashtra Politics: Political temperature has increased in Maharashtra since the rebellion in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar. The deadlock over the distribution of portfolios continues in the state.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and eight other NCP MLAs took oath along with Deputy CM Ajit Pawar after joining the BJP government, but these new ministers including Ajit Pawar are yet to get portfolios. Even after several rounds of meeting on the distribution of departments, the result has not come out. By the evening of Friday (July 14), it is possible to announce the division of departments.
Where is the matter stuck?
Shiv Sena Shinde faction has been shocked by Ajit Pawar and NCP’s large faction joining BJP alliance. Many Shiv Sena MLAs’ dreams of becoming ministers have suffered a setback. The sharing of power was to be between two parties BJP and Shiv Sena, now that sharing has been done among three parties.
Shiv Sena first wants that the expansion of the cabinet should happen before the monsoon session and Shiv Sena MLAs should get ministerial posts. Shiv Sena does not want the finance ministry to go into NCP’s account. When the Shinde faction rebelled in the Shiv Sena, Shinde and his fellow MLAs alleged that Ajit Pawar was the finance minister during the Uddhav Thackeray government. He was partial in distribution of funds.
The MLAs of the Shinde faction fear that if the portfolios are divided among the eight other NCP ministers who took oath along with Ajit Pawar before the cabinet expansion, the NCP will take away the creamy portfolios and they will end up with low-budget portfolios.  ;
Which portfolios does the Ajit Pawar faction want?
Ajit Pawar is the deputy CM and wants an equal share in the Shinde-Fadnavis government. Also want creamy posts in the cabinet. The NCP wants that the ministerial posts which were in the NCP’s quota during the Uddhav Thackeray government should be given to them. Ajit Pawar wants the finance ministry. Apart from this, NCP also wants irrigation and revenue departments.
What does the BJP want?
Shiv Sena has the CM post despite having the support of BJP’s largest number of MLAs (105) and independent MLAs There are only 10 ministerial posts in the government. Dissatisfaction among BJP MLAs and senior leaders is natural.
Many BJP MLAs want the leader who is in the present alliance Lok Sabha elections Those ministers who want to contest 2024 should leave the post and give chance to others. The party may have relinquished the post of CM, but the party wants Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis to retain control of the Finance Ministry and the Home Department.
How many ministers can be made in Maharashtra?
43 MLAs including the Chief Minister can be made ministers in Maharashtra’s cabinet. Till now there are 10 ministers from BJP, 10 from Shiv Sena and 9 from NCP in the cabinet. Still 14 ministers can be made.
After the round of meetings, 4 ministers of NCP can be made in the cabinet expansion. There will be a cabinet post. BJP and Shiv Sena will get 5-5 ministerial posts. Chhagan Bhujbal, Hasan Mushrif, Dhananjay Munde, Dilip Walse Patil, Anil Patil, Dharmarao Baba Atram, Sanjay Bansode and Aditi Tatkare are among the ministers who took oath along with Ajit Pawar.
